International Baccalureate Entrance Scholarships - University of Manitoba

These scholarships are offered to students who are entering university for the first time on the basis of the full International Baccaluareate Diploma.

7 award tiers will be set, with the required points and the amount of award determined annually. As an example, in 2006-2007, the tiers and the accompanying award values were as follows:

Tier I 43-44 points $2,800
Tier II 40-42 points $2,500
Tier III 37-39 points $2,200
Tier IV 34-36 points $1,900
Tier V 31-33 points $1,600
Tier VI 28-30 points $1,300
Tier VII 25-27 points $1,100

Students who have already received a University of Manitoba Entrance Scholarship which is equal to or greater than the amount in their IB tier listed above will not receive any further funding. Students whose UM Entrance Scholarship amount is lower then their IB tier will receive an award for the difference.

This award is open to candidates from any province or country.

Candidates will require:

  • Completion of the full diploma program, including completion of the course Theory of Knowledge, the extended essay and involvement in volunteer work through the CAS (extra-curricular, community services activities) component;
  • A minimum grade of 4 or better on each of the three higher level and the three subsidiary level papers;
  • Submission of IB results to the University of Manitoba Financial Aid and Awards Office by September 1st.

International Student Renewable Entrance Scholarship - University of Saskatchewan

International Student Renewable Entrance Scholarship

Value: $45,000 ($15,000 in Year 1, renewable at $10,000/year for Years 2, 3 and 4)

Eligibility: Open to International students entering any direct-entry college of the University of Saskatchewan. Scholarships are transferable between U of S colleges.

Selection:

* Academic achievement
* Demonstrated leadership
* Contributions to school and community life

Description of leadership and contributions to school and community life to be submitted via the online Application for International Student Renewable Entrance Scholarship.

Donor: University of Saskatchewan, through the International Student Awards Fund.

Other: Students will be eligible to have their award renewed for an additional three years, provided they meet the following criteria:

* have successfully completed a minimum of 24 credit units during the previous Fall and Winter terms;
* have maintained an average of at least 75% on all credit units attempted during the previous Fall and Winter terms.

If in any given year a recipient fails to meet the renewal criteria, he/she will not be eligible for consideration for the scholarship in any subsequent year.

Recipients will be guaranteed a spot in a U of S residence.

Students entering an undergraduate program at the University of Regina, Campion College, Luther College, or First Nations University of Canada who meet the following criteria:

  • direct entry from high school
  • completing IB Certificate (one or more subjects)*
  • weighted total of HL (higher level) and SL (standard level) grades
  • registered and remain registered in a minimum of 12 credit hours throughout the term in which the scholarship is paid out

* International Baccalaureate Diploma students are not eligible

Scholastic Distinction (Entrance Citations) for International Students - University of Alberta

Value: Variable from $15,000 to $20,000 - Payable over four years

Quantity available: Variable (Entrance or Transfer)

Conditions:
Awarded annually to students on study permit who are entering an undergraduate degree program at the University of Alberta from high school on the basis of superior academic achievement (minimum award average of ~95% or equivalent) in Grades 10, 11, and 12. Receipt of funding for the second, third, and fourth years is contingent upon achieving a minimum GPA of 3.5 on a full normal course load at the University of Alberta each year.

Application procedure:
The competition will open on December 1, 2010 and the deadline to apply is February 15, 2011.
